Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran TikTok dalam pembentukan stereotip gender melalui fenomena "The Power of Emak-Emak". Melalui pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi, yang bertujuan untuk memahami pengalaman subjektif pengguna TikTok terkait fenomena ini. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan lima informan kunci dan dua informan pendukung yang merupakan laki-laki dan perempuan dari generasi Y dan Z yang aktif menggunakan TikTok dan terpapar dengan konten terkait. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konten "The Power of Emak-Emak" di TikTok seringkali dilebih-lebihkan dan memiliki karakteristik karikaturial, yang menyebabkan pengguna mempersepsikan konten tersebut sebagai gambaran realitas. Interaksi antarpengguna juga memainkan peran penting dalam memperkuat stereotip ini melalui komentar dan interaksi mereka. Mekanisme algoritma TikTok yang menampilkan konten serupa secara terus-menerus, juga berkontribusi pada pembentukan dan penguatan stereotip gender tentang "emak-emak" sebagai individu yang berani dan sering bertindak nyeleneh. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa TikTok bukan hanya sekadar platform hiburan, melainkan juga media yang mampu membentuk dan memperkuat stereotip gender dalam masyarakat. Fenomena "The Power of Emak-Emak" mengilustrasikan bagaimana konten di media sosial dapat mempengaruhi persepsi publik terkait peran dan identitas gender. Adapun, limitasi pada penelitian ini terbatas pada media sosial TikTok. This research aims to analyze the role of TikTok in the formation of gender stereotypes through the phenomenon "The Power of Emak-Emak". Through a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, which aims to understand the subjective experiences of TikTok users regarding this phenomenon. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with five key informants and two supporting informants who are men and women from generations Y and Z who actively use TikTok and are exposed to related content. The research results show that the content "The Power of Emak-Emak" on TikTok is often exaggerated and has caricatural characteristics, which causes users to perceive the content as a depiction of reality. Interactions between users also play an important role in reinforcing these stereotypes through their comments and interactions. The TikTok algorithm mechanism, which displays similar content continuously, also contributes to the formation and strengthening of gender stereotypes about "mothers" as individuals who are brave and often act eccentrically. The conclusion of this research shows that TikTok is not just an entertainment platform, but also a medium that is able to shape and strengthen gender stereotypes in society. The phenomenon "The Power of Emak-Emak" illustrates how content on social media can influence public perceptions regarding gender roles and identity. Meanwhile, the limitations of this research are limited to the social media TikTok.
