Abstract

Skripsi ini merupakan hasil penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk tindakan remaja generasi Z dalam melakukan hiperrealitas di media sosial Instagram. Dengan menggunakan metode fenomenologi serta pendekatan kualitatif, peneliti ingin mengetahui dampak Fear of Missing Out dari tindakan hiperrealitas di media sosial Instagram dan bagaimana hiperrealitas dapat mengkonstruksi pengguna remaja generasi Z mengalami Fear of Missing Out. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Teori Hiperealitas dan simulacra serta Teori Interaksionalisme Simbolik Charles Horton Cooley. Teknik analisis data penelitian menggunakan interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Informan merupakan remaja generasi Z yang merupakan siswa atau mahasiswa aktif. Lokasi penelitian dilakukan di Kota Bandung karena berdasarkan data dari BPS Kota Bandung menunjukkan persentase penduduk pengguna media sosial sebesar 90,71%. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan studi literatur. Hasil dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa bentuk tindakan hiperrealitas generasi Z di media sosial terbagi ke dalam 4 tahapan yakni merefleksikan realitas dasar, menutupi realitas dasar, menutupi ketiadaan realitas, dan melahirkan realitas yang tidak berhubungan dengan kenyataan. Dampak positif yang dialami informan dari pengalaman Fear of Missing Out sebagai wujud dari Hiperealitas yaitu mendapatkan kebermanfaatan setelah memasuki organisasi atas dasar FoMO, namun dari hasil penelitian ini lebih banyak dampak negatif yang dialami baik dari segi sosial bahkan pendidikan seperti perasaan takut tertinggal, konsumtif, selalu ingin terhubung dengan sosial media, menurunnya interaksi sosial, beban moral bahkan kehilangan konstruksi identitas diri dalam pendidikan. Dalam konteks media sosial seperti Instagram, hiperrealitas dapat terjadi melalui kurasi konten, filter, dan editing yang membuat kehidupan seseorang terlihat lebih sempurna, Instagramable, aesthetic, menarik, dan menggiurkan daripada realitas sebenarnya sehingga hiperrealitas mampu mengkonstruksi Fear of Missing Out di kalangan remaja generasi Z. This thesis is the result of research which aims to determine the forms of action of Generation Z teenagers in carrying out hyperreality on the social media Instagram. By using phenomenological methods and a qualitative approach, researchers want to know the impact of Fear of Missing Out from hyperreality actions on Instagram social media and how hyperreality can construct Generation Z teenage users as experiencing Fear of Missing Out. The theories used in this research are the Theory of Hyperreality and Simulacra along with Charles Horton Cooley's Symbolic Interactionalism Theory. The research data analysis technique uses interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). The informants are generation Z teenagers who are active students or college students. The location of the research was carried out in Bandung City because based on data from BPS Bandung City, it showed that the percentage of the population using social media was 90.71%. The data collection techniques used in this research were observation, interviews, documentation and literature study. The results of this research state that Generation Z's forms of hyperreality actions on social media are divided into 4 stages, reflecting basic reality, covering up basic reality, covering up the absence of reality, and giving birth to a reality that is not related to the reality itself. The positive impact experienced by informants from the experience of Fear of Missing Out as a manifestation of Hyperreality was gaining benefits after entering an organization based on FoMO, however, from the results of this research, there are more negative impacts experienced both from a social and even educational perspective, such as feelings of fear of being left behind, being consumptive, always wanting to be connected to social media, decreased social interaction, moral burden and even loss of self- identity construction in education. In the context of social media such as Instagram, hyperreality can occur through content curation, filters, and editing which makes a person's life look more perfect, Instagrammable, aesthetic, interesting, and tempting than actual reality so that hyperreality is able to construct the Fear of Missing Out among Generation Z teenagers.
