Abstract

The phenomenon of catcalling falls under the category of verbal sexual harassment that still frequently occurs in society. Catcalling is considered a form of sexual harassment and a criminal act. Many people still perceive verbal sexual harassment as something commonplace. The research method employed in this study is descriptive qualitative. Furthermore, many individuals become victims of catcalling, with the majority being women, and the impact can vary, affecting both psychological and social aspects. The prevalent negative societal view of women contributes to a high level of victimization among them. To prevent and combat verbal sexual harassment, strict legal enforcement and community awareness are essential. It is crucial to provide social support to victims of verbal sexual harassment. Additionally, the younger generation, often referred to as the strawberry generation, which tends to be open to social issues, plays a significant role in changing societal attitudes towards verbal sexual harassment. They can act as agents of change by raising awareness about the importance of respecting individual rights, both for men and women, and contributing to efforts to prevent and address catcalling and verbal sexual harassment.
