Abstract

Dark Tourism is a unique and unusual tourist attraction that is related to death, disaster, violence, memories and all things that are not interesting. Nevertheless, dark tourism has positive values, such as being able to provide reflection for society to create a better future. There are examples of five dark tourism locations that were used as objects of this research, namely: Bali Bombing Memorial, Pancasila Sakti Monument, Aceh Tsunami Museum, My Remaining Treasure Museum (Merapi), Bukit Tinggi Japanese Hole. These five locations are tourist attractions that contain dark experiences such as disasters and other unpleasant events. In this research, researchers focused on studying the motivation of visitors to dark tourism tourist attractions from these five locations. The research method used was descriptive quantitative using factor analysis, the data of which was collected through a questionnaire with 210 respondents which resulted in five factors ranging from high to low: Novelty and knowledge seeking, Curiousity, Visual and spiritual experience, Excape and Relaxation, and Recommendation and common reason. Applicatively, the managers of the five tourist attractions are expected to be able to promote these dark tourism attractions with a novelty and knowledge seeking approach, such as highlighting the historical value and insight of these attractions.
