Abstract

Engagement siswa saat ini diyakini rendah dan banyak dikeluhkan oleh guru. Selain itu, sejak pandemi Covid-19 terjadinya peningkatan penggunaan internet yang meningkatkan potensi problematic internet use. Dalam hal ini, efektivitas guru dalam pembelajaran menjadi kunci sehingga engagement siswa dapat tetap terjaga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran efektivitas guru dalam memoderasi pengaruh problematic internet use terhadap engagement siswa SMP di Kabupaten Majalengka. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Sementara itu, teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah teknik convenience sampling dengan jumlah partisipan sebanyak 418 siswa SMP yang berusia 12-16 tahun. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 untuk mengukur problematic internet use, School Teacher Effectiveness Questionnaire untuk mengukur efektivitas guru, dan Student Engagement Instrument untuk mengukur engagement siswa, yang sudah diadaptasi ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Hasil pengolahan data menggunakan Moderated Regression Analysis menunjukkan bahwa efektivitas guru memoderasi pengaruh problematic internet use terhadap engagement pada siswa. Efektivitas guru pada tingkat tertentu (tinggi) melemahkan pengaruh problematic internet use terhadap engagement pada siswa. Rekomendasi hasil penelitian ini ditujukan kepada guru, orang tua, siswa, dan peneliti selanjutnya. Student engagement is currently believed to be low and is widely complained about by teachers. In addition, since the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in internet use which increases the potential for problematic internet use. In this case, teacher effectiveness in learning is key so that student engagement can be maintained. This study aims to analyze the role of teacher effectiveness in moderating the effect of problematic internet use on engagement of junior high school students in Majalengka Regency. The method used in this research is quantitative with a correlational design. Meanwhile, the sampling technique used was convenience sampling technique with a total of 418 junior high school students aged 12-16 years. The instruments used in this study are the Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 to measure problematic internet use, the School Teacher Effectiveness Questionnaire to measure teacher effectiveness, and the Student Engagement Instrument to measure student engagement, which has been adapted into Indonesian. The results of data processing using Moderated Regression Analysis show that teacher effectiveness moderates the effect of problematic internet use on student engagement. Teacher effectiveness at a certain level (high) weakens the effect of problematic internet use on student engagement. The recommendations of this study are addressed to teachers, parents, students, and future researchers.
