Abstract

The variety of languages has grown increasingly common in many aspects. Code mixing is one unique phenomenon that has evolved. In Indonesia, code-mixing between Indonesian languages and local languages or dialects has become a norm in daily conversations. Someone who can use two or more languages is called bilingualism. This study aims to explore the phenomenon of code mixing in the context of a popular YouTube video by Jakarta Uncensored Channel. The video features two groups of individuals from different regions of Jakarta engaging in playful banter. The study explores the social and cultural significance of code mixing in this specific context. Through a qualitative analysis of the language used in the video, this article examines the types of code mixing that occur, including intra-lexical code mixing, intra-sentential code mixing, and involving a change of pronunciation based upon classification by Hoffman (1991). In addition, this research reveals the levels of code mixing according to Suwito (1985) which classifies code mixing into word, phrase, baster, repetition word, idiom, and clause level. The findings after analyzing the video on Youtube Jakarta Uncensored, there are eighty-four data for the types and levels of code mixing. By focusing on the percentages of the data, the dominant type that appears is the type of intra-sentential code mixing and the lowest type is intra-lexical code mixing. Meanwhile, the word level appears the most frequently in the levels of code mixing, whereas the idiom level appears the least.
