Abstract

Penulisan skripsi yang berjudul “Sekolah Van Deventer: Sekolah Guru Perempuan di Bandung (1918-1942)” dilatarbelakangi oleh ketertarikan penulis mengenai sejarah perempuan dan pendidikan pada masa kolonial. Perempuan memiliki nasib yang kurang beruntung dalam pendidikan. Sekolah Van Deventer di Bandung selaku sekolah guru perempuan hadir sebagai babak baru bagi sejarah pendidikan perempuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peranan dan dampak keberadaan Sekolah Van Deventer di Bandung dalam penguatan pendidikan perempuan. Metode yang digunakan merupakan metode historis dengan langkah-langkah seperti heuristik, kritik sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan, pertama, Sekolah Van Deventer di Bandung didirikan karena rasa empati para elit Belanda atas kedudukan perempuan dalam adat istiadat Sunda, kebutuhan peran guru di masyarakat Jawa Barat, serta keinginan para lulusan sekolah-sekolah perempuan untuk diadakannya pendidikan lanjutan. Kedua, peranan Sekolah Van Deventer dalam memperkuat pendidikan perempuan yakni melalui tujuan pendidikan yang jelas, dasar hukum yang kuat, dana operasional yang memadai, manajemen sekolah yang baik, sistem dan kurikulum terbaik, serta guru dan murid yang berkualitas. Ketiga, dampak keberadaan Sekolah Van Deventer di Bandung dalam pendidikan perempuan yaitu telah melahirkan calon-calon guru berkualitas bagi sekolah-sekolah perempuan di Jawa Barat, merubah sikap pemerintah maupun orangtua di Jawa Barat terhadap pendidikan perempuan, yang mana mereka mulai menilai bahwa pendidikan penting bagi anak perempuan. Hal tersebut merupakan dampak dari keberhasilan Sekolah Van Deventer dalam membimbing anak-anak perempuan di Bandung. Writing a thesis entitled “Van Deventer School: School for Female Teachers in Bandung (1918-1942) is motivated by the author's interest in the history of women and education during the colonial period. Women have a disadvantaged fate in education. Van Deventer School in Bandung as a school for female teachers exists as a new chapter in the history of women's education. This study aims to examine the role and impact of the existence of the Van Deventer School in Bandung in strengthening women's education. The method used is a historical method with steps such as heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded, first, the Van Deventer School in Bandung was founded because of the empathy of the Dutch elite for the position of women in Sundanese customs, the need for the teacher's role in West Java society, and the desire of graduates of women's schools for further education. Second, the role of the Van Deventer School in strengthening women's education is through clear educational goals, a strong legal basis, adequate operational funds, good school management, the best system and curriculum, and quality teachers and students. Third, the impact of the existence of the Van Deventer School in Bandung on women's education, which has produced qualified teacher candidates for women's schools in West Java, has changed the attitude of both the government and parents in West Java towards women's education, where they have begun to judge that education is important for them. girl. This is the impact of the success of the Van Deventer School in guiding girls in Bandung.
