Abstract

The demand for electricity in Indonesia has been rapidly increasing due to population growth in various regions. At present, the electricity supply provided by PT PLN is still insufficient to meet the demand in certain areas. The utilization of renewable energy sources holds the potential to address the uneven distribution of electricity in the country. This research focuses on studying the potential of a Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) using the Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER) Pro software, incorporating techno-economic analysis and the Break Even Point in Duri. The study compares simulation results between off-grid and hybridmodes. The primary objective is to propose an economically viable and optimized design for HRES based on the available renewable resources at the research location, specifically for the development of hybrid power generation in the commercial building sector. Electricity consumption data was collected from Graha Mustika Ratu (GMR) building in South Jakarta, with an average monthly consumption of 359,730 kWh. The renewable energy resources available at the research location, such as solar radiation exposure, river water flow, and organic waste output, were incorporated into the HOMER software for analysis. The components utilized in this HRES study include Photovoltaic (PV) panels and biomass generators. The novelty of this research lies in the application of HRES in remote areas like Duri, which impacts the selection of suitable renewable energy sources. Techno-economic analysis and the break-even point method were employed to compare the performance of the HRES system based on Net Present Cost (NPC) and Cost of Electricity (COE). Through HOMER analysis and manual calculations, the most cost-effective total NPC and COE values were obtained, amounting to Rp 3,912,497,000 and Rp 207.11/kWh, respectively. The break-even point of the hybridPLTH (Power Plant) system is 12 years.
