Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh hasil kajian dan studi pendahuluan tentang pentingnya karakter mandiri khususnya kemandirian belajar bagi peserta didik di Sekolah Dasar. Berdasarkan studi literatur buku cerita bergambar dapat digunakan sebagai upaya penanaman nilai karakter kepada peserta didik yang dikonsolidasikan ke dalam pembelajaran. Namun, keterbatasan bahan ajar berupa buku cerita bergambar khususnya dalam hal ini memuat nilai karakter kemandirian yang dapat diintegrasikan dengan materi pembelajaran masih jarang digunakan oleh guru di Sekolah Dasar sehingga menjadi landasan utama untuk melakukan penelitian ini. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan buku cerita bergambar bermuatan nilai kemandirian yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan bacaan anak dan bahan ajar khususnya pada pembelajaran matematika di kelas IV dengan materi sifat-sifat bangun segi banyak beraturan dan segi banyak tidak beraturan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian EDR (Educational Design Research) dengan tiga tahap penelitian, yaitu (1) tahap analisis dan eksplorasi; (2) tahap desain dan kontruksi; serta (3) tahap evaluasi dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan, yaitu observasi, wawancara, studi dokumentasi, validasi ahli, dan uji respons terhadap produk. Hasil penelitian pengembangan ini, di antaranya: (1) hasil analisis kebutuhan mengenai buku cerita bergambar yang dikembangkan dengan memperhatikan aspek kemandirian belajar peserta didik dan ketersediaan buku cerita bergambar di perpustakaan sekolah; (2) hasil desain dan konstruksi berkaitan dengan desain pengembangan buku cerita bergambar; (4) tingkat kelayakan produk yang dinyatakan “layak” oleh ahli yang terlibat; serta (3) hasil respons peserta didik dan guru dari kelas IV Sekolah Dasar sebagai pengguna dari produk buku cerita bergambar bermuatan nilai kemandirian dengan judul “Aku, Matematika, & Arsitek”. This research was motivated by the results of studies and preliminary studies on the importance of independent character, especially learning independence for students in elementary schools. Based on the literature study, picture storybooks can be used as an effort to instil character values in students that are consolidated into learning. However, the limitations of teaching materials in the form of picture storybooks, especially in this case containing the character value of independence that can be integrated with learning materials, are still rarely used by teachers in elementary schools so that it is the main basis for conducting this research. The purpose of this research is to develop illustrated storybooks with the value of independence that can be used as children's reading materials and teaching materials, especially in mathematics learning in grade IV with the material of the properties of regular and irregular quadrilaterals. This study uses EDR (Educational Design Research) research design with three research stages, namely (1) analysis and exploration stage; (2) design and construction stage; and (3) evaluation and reflection stage. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, documentation study, expert validation, and product response test. The results of this development research include: (1) the results of the needs analysis regarding picture storybooks developed by taking into account aspects of learner learning independence and the availability of picture storybooks in school libraries; (2) the results of design and construction related to the design of picture storybook development and the level of product feasibility which was declared "feasible" by the experts involved; (3) the results of the responses of learners and teachers from class IV Elementary School as users of picture storybook products with the value of independence with the title "Me, Mathematics, & Architect".
