Abstract

Metode role play merupakan salah satu metode yang dapat digunakan guru untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pandangan guru mengenai penggunaan metode role play di kelas berbicara dan untuk mengetahui permasalahan yang dialami oleh kedua guru serta cara yang digunakan untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua orang guru SMP di Bandung. Dalam pengumpulan data, penulis melakukan wawancara kepada kedua orang guru tersebut. Durasi yang dibutuhkan sekitar 15 menit dengan menanyakan sekitar 10 pertanyaan. Setelah melakukan analisis, penulis juga melakukan analisis data. Penulis menggunakan analisis tema untuk menganalisis data yang telah diperoleh dari hasil wawancara. Setelah dilakukan penelitian ditemukan bahwa penggunaan role play masih memberikan beberapa permasalahan kepada guru seperti ketika guru kesulitan dalam menentukan topik, menentukan penulis naskah, ada beberapa siswa yang tidak percaya diri berbicara bahasa inggris dan terkendala waktu. Meski begitu, kedua guru ini juga melakukan beberapa cara yang berdasarkan pengalamannya mampu mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Selain itu, ditemukan juga bahwa kedua guru merasa nyaman dengan metode role play dan mereka akan menerapkan metode ini di masa depan. Hal ini dikarenakan adanya dampak positif yang dirasakan siswa dari kedua guru tersebut setelah metode tersebut digunakan. The role play method is a method that can be used by teachers to improve students' speaking skills. The purpose of this study was to find out the teacher's views on the use of the role play method in speaking class and to find out the problems experienced by both teachers and the ways in which they were used to overcome these problems. This research involved two junior high school teachers in Bandung. In collecting data, the writer conducted interviews with the two teachers. The duration needed is about 15 minutes by asking about 10 questions. After doing the analysis, the writer also did the data analysis. The author uses theme analysis to analyze the data that has been obtained from the interview results. After conducting research, it was found that the use of role play still gave some problems to the teacher such as when the teacher had difficulty in determining the topic, determining the scriptwriter, there are some students who are not confident to speak English and time constrains. Even so, these two teachers also carried out several ways that, based on their experience, were able to overcome these problems. In addition, it was also found that both teachers felt comfortable with the role play method and they would apply this method in the future. This is due to the positive impact felt by the students from the two teachers after this method was used.
